Robotics preventive maintenance

Robotics Preventive Maintenance

Robotics preventive maintenance is scheduled onsite work that catches physical wear before it becomes downtime. Autonomy Field Services runs PM visits on the checklist your platform requires, across every site in the program, and closes each visit with condition reporting you can act on.

Why scheduled maintenance matters for commercial robots

Commercial robots run in dirty, busy, physical environments. Sensors collect dust and film, casters pick up debris, cables and connectors work loose, batteries age, and wear items reach the end of their service life quietly. None of that shows up as a clean software error until it causes a stop, a navigation fault, or a failed mission. A PM program finds those conditions on a schedule rather than during an outage.

What a PM visit covers

  • Visual inspection of the chassis, covers, bumpers, and mounts
  • Sensor and camera cleaning and inspection
  • Wheel, caster, and drive inspection
  • Wear-component inspection against the platform's service intervals
  • Cable, connector, and harness checks
  • Battery inspection and charging-system checks
  • Dock and charger inspection
  • Approved consumable and wear-item replacement
  • Diagnostic procedures defined by the platform
  • Maintenance documentation and condition reporting

Fleet maintenance programs

For a distributed installed base, the value of PM comes from consistency: the same checklist, the same intervals, the same documentation at every site. Autonomy structures PM as a route or program rather than a series of one-off visits. Sites are grouped by geography, visits are scheduled around customer service windows, and the record from each visit feeds the next one.

Programs can run alongside break/fix coverage so that issues found during a PM visit are routed into a repair event with the parts and approvals already in motion.

Platform-approved procedures only

PM work follows the manufacturer's published maintenance guidance and any customer-specific instructions. Autonomy does not invent maintenance procedures for a platform. Where a program requires platform-specific training before technicians perform PM, that training is completed before assignment, and replacement of components is limited to what the platform designates as field-serviceable.

How a PM program is set up

Scope
The platform's PM checklist, the intervals, the consumables and wear items involved, and the documentation format you require.
Sites
Where the units are, how many per site, site access requirements, and the service windows the customer allows.
Schedule
Routes and cadence built around the installed base, then adjusted as units are added or moved.
Parts and consumables
Who supplies them, how they reach the technician, and how used items are returned or disposed.
Reporting
Per-visit documentation, condition ratings, exceptions, and items recommended for repair.

Why outsource preventive maintenance

  • Cover recurring visits across many sites without permanent regional staff
  • Keep intervals on schedule instead of deferring PM when engineers are busy
  • Get uniform condition data across the whole installed base
  • Turn PM findings into planned repairs rather than emergency dispatches
  • Scale the route as the fleet grows

Coverage

Autonomy Field Services supports commercial robotics deployments throughout Tennessee and the Southeast United States, including Nashville, Knoxville, Chattanooga, Memphis, Middle Tennessee, and East Tennessee. Coverage for a specific site or program is confirmed during scoping, and multi-site programs beyond these markets are scoped case by case.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can you perform preventive maintenance for distributed robot fleets?

Yes. PM is structured as a route or program across the sites in scope, scheduled around customer service windows, with consistent documentation from every visit.

Whose maintenance procedure is used?

The platform manufacturer's published guidance plus any customer-specific instructions. Autonomy does not create its own procedures for a platform.

What if a PM visit finds a problem?

It is documented with photos and a condition note and routed to a repair event, which can be handled under the same program if break/fix is in scope.

Who supplies consumables and wear items?

That is defined during scoping. Parts can be customer-supplied, OEM-supplied, or coordinated per event, and used items are returned or disposed per your instructions.
